Designed for all types of combat situations, it features a short piston system to reduce heating and dirt entering the weapon. It is the basis of the other assault rifle that the Navy has just bought, theHK417, caliber 7.62 mm. TheHK416is in service in neighboring countries such as Portugal – in its special operations forces – and also in France that chose this model to replace theFamaassault rifles of its Armed Forces.
The Spanish Marine Corps will also receiveGLM (Grenade Launcher Module) grenade launchers that allow the firing of 40 mm projectiles. TheGLMcan be attached to the handguards of the HK416 andHK417. With the addition of a retractable stock, the GLM can be used as a standalone launcher. An integral MIL-STD (Picatinny) rail also allows you to add a folding vertical grip. In this configuration, GLM can be effectively used as a "grenade gun" in tight spaces without the stock attached.
