King Felipe VI will make a new visit next week to the province of Cádiz and its units of the Armed Forces. On Friday, December 16, he will visit the facilities of the Tercio de Armada (TEAR) and the Tercio Sur (TERSUR) in San Fernando to see first-hand the capabilities and means available to both units of the Marine Corps.

Although Felipe VI has been on several occasions in San Fernando in the delivery of dispatches of the School of Non-commissioned Officers of the Navy, this will be the first official time in the San Carlos barracks as king. He was in Cádiz last September for the last time, on the occasion of the celebration of the V centenary of the First World Tour in the waters of Sanlúcar, where a naval stop was made that he presided over embarked on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano.

TEAR and TERSUR

The Marine Infantry Brigade "Tercio de Armada" (BRIMAR-TEAR) constitutes theMarine Expeditionary Force and is a unit capable of executing all combat functions by itself and, therefore, carrying out its mission autonomously, remember on the website of the Royal House. Belonging to the Marine Infantry Force and integrated into the Navy Fleet, it is based in San Fernando, being also close to the facilities of the Naval Base of Rota, where the amphibious ships from which it performs its main mission are located, and its proximity to the Training Field of the Sierra del Retín, whose environment is ideal for carrying out exercises and ground and amphibious maneuvers of all kinds.

Its particularity lies in its ability to carry out military operations on land initiated from the sea aboard the amphibious ships of the Navy. Due to its capabilities, intense training, high level of enlistment and expeditionary mentality, it can operate in any type of combat, peace or humanitarian operation, constituting, therefore, within the Navy Fleet, an ideal tool as a first response force for crisis management.

They are deployed in the operation in Mali, providing security to teams of international trainers in charge of training local Armed Forces.

For its part, the Southern Third is one of the components of the Navy Protection Force (FUPRO) that belongs to the Marine Infantry Force, integrated into the Navy Fleet. Its mission is to provide protection and physical security to the bases, facilities, organizations and people of the Navy in the Bay of Cadiz area.

The Tercio del Sur is one of the units with the greatest history and tradition within the Marine Corps, and holds the privilege of carrying on its flag the Tie of the Order of San Fernando, as a symbol of the Laureate Cross won in 1874 by its predecessor unit, the Second Battalion of the First Regiment of Lieutenant Colonel Albacete y Fuster, in the heroic action of San Pedro Abanto and the hamlet of Murrieta, during the 3rd Carlist War.

The personnel of this Third permanently participates in the Operation "Atalanta" of the European Union against piracy in Somali waters, highlighting Operational Security Teams (EOS), specifically trained for their participation in Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) from Navy ships.

They also participate in the VIGMAR Forum, ofMaritime Surveillance and Security, which is also provided with Operational Security Teams (EOS) to carry out maritime interdiction tasks (MIO) from Navy ships deployed in the territorial sea and Exclusive Economic Zone of the Strait of Gibraltar and Gulf of Cádiz.
